The Municipality of Athens convened the Athens Climate forum on Tuesday, April 29, with a special issue in the bike at the Athens City Hall. During the Athens Climate Forum, the main pillars of the plan were discussed:

The creation of a 15km of the Municipal Network of Safe Cycling Routes to be held under the responsibility of the Municipality with Oxe funding, and 2 km on the Sacred Road, in the context of the double regeneration.

The creation of a metropolitan network to be implemented by the Region and includes a section of about 8 km of exclusive bike lane in Athens as part of the north cycling axis.

The ending in Athens of the European Cycling Routes Eurovelo 8 and Eurovelo 11 to join Europe on the major cycling routes of Europe.

The creation of 50 bicycle parking and electric bicycle charging network for rent, with secured funding from the Smart Cities program. These stations are scheduled to spread in the neighborhoods and not only to the tourist spots and to be connected to the bike lanes to increase the use of the bike and by residents who are not already cycling.

The Municipality of Athens emphasizes safe cycling routes for children’s access to schools, connecting to public transport stations, as well as the creation of safe routes in the neighborhoods, as part of the concept of the “open neighborhood of 15 minutes” and the highest quality of all.

The forum was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ef. Bakoyannis, representatives of the Attica Region, Universities Professors, the Development Organization “New Metropolitan Attica SA”, EBE, the Hellenic Society Counselors and executives of the Municipality of Athens.
