“School was her great love, it was her dream to graduate from school and continue,” her mother, Sofia Plakias, said
Emotional moments unfolded Wednesday afternoon at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she was awarded to the family of Thomai Plakias, a victim of the Tempe tragedy, the degree in Pharmacy, a school where she was studying.
The AUTH paid tribute to the memory of Thomai Plakias, who was killed at the age of just 19 in the conflict of the two trains in February 2023 on the sidelines of the anniversary event that took place at the University Ceremony Hall for the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Department of Pharmacy. This is the awarding of the “Honorary Title of Memory” that the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has established to honor the memory of its students who lost their lives in the Tempe accident.
In a climate of intense emotional charge and tears in her eyes, the mother of the wronged Thomais, Sofia Plakias, received her degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the President of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, with Nikos Plakias, the father of the unknown student.
“I’m sure Thomais is somewhere and sees us. The school was her great love, it was her dream to graduate from school and continue, “Sofia Plakias said and wished all children to make their dreams come true. “There is no one but a Tempi that will deprive them of as he said so many dreams and so many minds,” he said.
Mr Fidas spoke of a “very moving moment” in his statements referring to the tribute to Thomai Plakias. “Our university has made the decision to honor all the students and students who died in the Tempe accident. Our University had 17 students and students lost in that accident. We attribute them to the honorary title for the sake of the grace, a title that the children themselves sought when they entered the university and the degree of study will get it even now, and this is our obligation, “the AUTH Rector said.
For his part, the president of the Department of Pharmacy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Professor Kyriakos Kachmanis emphasized in his address at the event that “it is a highest symbolism of fulfillment of her dream”, referring to the deprivation of tribute to Thomai Plakia, ” “As teachers we want all children to return to their homes with their degrees,” he said.
The Deputy Minister of Education and former Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Nikos Papaioannou, also addressed the event. “After the tragic event of the Tempi, the AUTH Senate then decided to honor the children who were lost,” Papaioannou initially said, while stressing that “I want to say about all the children for all the losers in Tempi that I bend my head and my family. And as far as we say we understand them, no one can understand her pain. “
During the anniversary event, distinguished personalities were also honored who contributed decisively to the course of the Department of Pharmacy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
