Water. Is not just necessary, is life itself. It’s hard to imagine a day without water. Water is the guardian of the environment as it keeps ecosystems safe, regulates the climate and nourishes biodiversity. It is a valuable resource that belongs to nature and local communities. But we have to manage it properly, as there is now a need to save.

For Coca-Cola, water is an essential ingredient of all our products. We depend on water to clean and cool our equipment at every bottling plant. It nourishes the arable land that our natural ingredients provide – but its importance is much greater. It is a source of life for the planet, Now and in the future.

With more than half of the wetlands worldwide disappearing and many lakes and rivers deprived, water scarcity is now a reality for many. We take over now action To meet the challenges of water and help reduce aqueous footprint.

One of the company’s main goals worldwide for proper water management is to return at least 100% of the water used in our final products, Overall worldwide, in nature and local communities. A goal we achieve or even exceed, since 2015.

In Greece, programs for tackling aqueous challenges have been implemented for 19 years. For the past three years, the Zero Drop Water Resources Protection, implemented by Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med) and funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation (The Coca-Cola Foundation), applies technical water-saving solutions in areas facing areas facing vigorous areas. while developing infrastructures for proper management and safeguarding water resources.

A project in Crete, conducted in 2023, with additional funding from Coca-Cola Three Epsilon, is an example of this initiative, in an area where the company has been operating for the past 18 years, focusing on the soft drinks plant in Heraklion, which produces and distributes its products throughout the island. Climate instability, with drought waves, has an impact on the level of water reservoirs in Heraklion, while during the tourist season, water demand increases and its use in agriculture affects pores as a whole. As a result, the city’s water supply network faces challenges, such as casual water deficiencies, which often pushes residents to use tanks on the roofs to have steady access to it.

To help deal with water scarcity in the agricultural sector, which is by far the largest “consumer” of water, the “Zero Drop” program carried out technical interventions, in May 2023, in communities of the Municipality of Herakeli, Prophet Elias, in Voutes, Agios Syla, Petrola. These are five rural communities, which faced large losses of water from frequent leaks, pushing producers to draw water from the limited aquifer, at significant energy costs. The project upgrading the network with new durable pipes saves water for the benefit of local farmers and the wider community.

The project of the Zero Drop program in Heraklion is a project that directly touches the people of Crete. For many of them, such as Hercules, who deals with grape production, water is everything.
