The changes brought about by the new framework for evaluation and psychological support of the staff – New Philosophy for a more friendly police, Chrysochoids say
The innovative changes to the new framework for evaluation and psychological support of the Hellenic Police staff were presented today at a press conference held at the GADA Amphitheater by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochidis, the Chief of Staff.
These are modern psychometry tools that will be used by the Greek Police, adapted to the needs of its staff and are the result of cooperation with GEATHA and the University of Crete.
“For a new philosophy that is being established, according to which the police need to become more extroverted, more friendly, but at the same time effective, with a new and modern structure, with a defined strategic and operational plan,” Michalis Chrysochoid said. He added that these innovative changes came from a crucial and key question. “What characteristics do we want the Greek and the Greek police officer to have today? What criteria do we need to keep in mind to understand the future police officers who will take the difficult, highly complex and complex task of protecting citizens? “
He also stressed that this is a “road map” that creates protocols and procedures for all stages of a police officer’s service life from his ranking to his assessment and support. In addition, he added that, from Autumn, there will be the possibility of presenting a comprehensive plan that includes “processes of impartial, objective, fair, to the police themselves, but also to the citizens who need efficient and effective police officers, so that the assessment of staff can be effective”.
“Our goal is to rebuild, upgrade the body and solve the problems of the past. Our primary concern is how to support our staff better in this process. At the same time in support of our staff, we provide better services to the citizens and we are sure that they themselves will realize that they have properly trained police officers to manage difficult situations, “the Greek police chief said in his placement in his presentation. He also added that “the more valuable Greek Police is our staff and we are very sensitive to issues that concern it. We hear both his concerns and society. ” He noted that it is very important “especially in cutting -edge services that have additional psychological burden by the nature of their mission as they usually act in stressful situations, to be able to provide them with the necessary psychological support”.
ELAS Health Director, Lieutenant General Athanasios Badas, referred to general issues of organization of services for the utilization of psychometric tools.
The Director of the Directorate of Personnel, Brigadier Dimitrios Polyzos, spoke of an infrastructure project for ELAS.
For her part, the Director of the Directorate of Organization and Legal Support, Brigadier Panagiotas Papadopoulou said: “The current police officer needs support. He needs a system that listens to him, respecting his role and protects him. The police officer executes orders, but he is not a robot. It may wear a uniform, but it is not a superhero. He is a human being, like all of you, who is called upon daily to manage pressing situations, to show restraint, to protect citizens and at the same time to preserve his own mental balance. The mental health of police officers is not a luxury, nor optional care. It is a key prerequisite for the Greek Police to function properly and effectively. When we take care of our people, we also ensure the safety of citizens. “
The reason was then given to ELAS experts, the President of the Commission, Police Officer, Psychiatrist George Ladas and Police Officer A/C, Psychologist Catherine Zarmakoupi, who analyzed the necessity of changing and changing their change.
