Today met online Permanent Special Scientific Committee for Seismic Risk Assessment and Reduction of Seismic Risk of OASP to examine issues related to the seismic activity of Mount Athos, on the occasion of the earthquake that occurred today 5.3 Richter.

As highlighted in a statement from the ministry Climate crisis and politicsthe current earthquake activity on Mount Athos is limited to the same seismic seismic sequence that has begun in June, with no extinguishers of adjacent reflective zones. At the same time, according to the announcement, the Commission recommends that monks and visitors avoid entering and staying in buildings that may have been damaged.

In particular, as the Communication states, after discussion between the members of the Commission and the presentation and examination of all data so far, the following are unanimously formulated:

1. The current seismic activity on Mount Athos, taking into account all the data so far, is to date to the same seismic seismic sequence that has begun in June, without existing activation of adjacent richigenic zones. The multitude of earthquakes in size greater than 4 than the onset of activity is 8, and the maximum size is 5.3 (today’s earthquake).

2. The Commission recommends monks and visitors to avoid entry and stay in damage that may have been damaged. It is also proposed to choose safe routes when moving, especially at points where there are intense morphological slopes.

3. The Commission will meet again if it is considered appropriate.

In terms of anti -seismic protection, instructions can be sought on the websites of the Anti -Seismic Planning and Protection Organization (www.oasp.gr) and the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr).
