The Greek Police – especially in Athens and Thessaloniki is on a state of increased alert – due to the geopolitical crisis between Israel and Iran.

More specifically, according to ERT, authorities are afraid of provocative actions aimed at hurting the country’s security image or involving Greece in international developments by implementing a plan to prevent attacks, with enhanced security measures on at least twenty Israeli interest targets, including:

  • The Israeli Embassy in Athens
  • Synagogues and Jewish monuments
  • Israeli interest companies
  • Areas with the presence of Israeli tourists (hotels, resorts, cruises)

In addition to obvious storage measures, police officers will also be operating politicians to enhance surveillance and address possible threats in time.

Finally, it is noted that the threat of a terrorist attack is considered to be likely to be carried out either by antisocial groups, as implied in relation to an earlier case (Jafka in Ampelokipi), or by lonely perpetrators from Middle East countries that may function as “lonely wolves”.
