They stole power cables from the Serres pumping station, causing flooding risk on farms and in an adjacent settlement. These are five people associated with relatives, two men and three women.

They were brought to trial before the Thessaloniki One -Member Court of Appeals, which each sentenced, each, to a total sentence of 8 years in prison. The two men, 46 and 20 years old, were led after the court’s verdict in prison, while the three women, 22 and 23 years old, were released on restrictive terms in view of the secondary trial.

The theft, according to the case file, was held last October at the pumping station located in the port of Kerkini. The defendants pierced the pumping station by breaking the windows and door of the plant, and then isolated the power supply, removing the cables in order to process copper and sell it.

The result was that the pumping station, the largest in the prefecture of Serres, were shut down, and there was a risk of flooding the farms of Kerkini and Livadia until the settlement of Kerkini, a development that was avoided by the immediate intervention of the competent workshops, as described in the case.
