The Fire Department announced that 55 agrarian fires across the country were recorded in the last 24 hours.
Of these, according to the Fire Brigade, 45 were immediately treated at their initial stage, while the Fire Brigades still face 10.
Local investigative offices, as well as scales of the Arson Criminal Office (DAE), are investigating the causes of fires.
For tomorrow, the fire department staff of the areas with a very high risk of fire will be partially alert to address any new outbreaks immediately.
Citizens are called upon to be very careful and to strictly adhere to fire protection measures.
It is noted that, according to the fire prediction map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is provided for tomorrow in the following areas:
- Attica
- Region of Central Greece (Evia IP)
- Region of Crete (Rethymnon, PE of Heraklion, Lassithi,)
- Northern Aegean Region (Lesvos, IP Chios, PE Samos, PE Ikaria)
It is implemented in the 2nd Stage of Operational Readiness of the PA. And air surveillance patrols will be carried out, as well as patrols by firefighters, police and military forces.
In addition, the fire department staff of the above regional units are partially alert to tackle the increased service requirements, which may occur due to very high risk of fire (Risk Category 4).
At the same time, for the above areas, the Civil Protection Actions Plan to address risks due to forest fires is implemented, according to which, inter alia, the implementation of the preventive prohibition of vehicle traffic and the stay of excursions in national parks, forests and “fraud”.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (civilProtection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the relevant state -owned government agencies, as well as the regions and municipalities of the above areas, in order to be on increased civil protection readiness to address any immediate fires.
At the same time the Fire Brigade appeals to citizens:
1. To be very careful and avoid actions in the countryside that can cause fire from negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, using sparks such as saws, welding appliances, use of outdoor buns. It is also recalled that the burning of the fields are prohibited during the fire period.
2. Monitor the information on the prevention of forest fires available on the website and on the official Fire Brigade accounts, Facebook and Twitter.
3. In the event of a fire, they are kindly requested to notify the fire service immediately in the 199 call number 199.
