A prison sentence of 8 to 28 months, with a three -year suspended suspension, imposed the Thessaloniki Criminal Court on a total of nine people who were found guilty of repeated injuries of a 21 -year -old career in the care and protection structure of children with disabilities.

Their criminal liability was investigated by prosecutor’s order after the death of the 21 -year -old in November 2021, allegedly being victimized by a nurse.

Among those who were found guilty of the offense of causing bodily harm (by a converging conscious negligence by the liable for omission), are two former presidents of the Central Welfare Center of Central Macedonia, as well as Heads of Careers and Nurses.

By the same ruling, 9 carers and nurses who had been brought to trial were acquitted (18 were the defendants in the case).

For his death he was sentenced to 10 years in prison by another Court (Criminal Court) by a caregiver of the Foundation who was found guilty of fatal bodily harm against a weak person (released in the face of the Court of Appeal).

The same career was also charged with the case that arrived at the One -Member Criminal Court and was sentenced to 8 months in prison.

Continuous injuries within the institution for 3 years

This case file was based on incidents of injury that occurred at a depth of 3 years and led to the 21 -year -old hospitalization.

The carers involved and nurses were accused of did not take me on avoidance measures Self -injuries of the careful or even clashes between them that led to injuries, while the defendants of their bosses did not conduct the necessary checks to take these measures.

In total were recorded 10 incidents And depending on the degree of involvement of the defendants in each of them they were found guilty (once and formed) or acquitted. The largest sentence (28 months) was imposed on one of the then presidents of the center.

In their apologies all the persons involved refused the category. Among the allegations raised by employees were the lack of staff and infrastructure, while members of the administrations reported that they never received a nuisance on issues related to the care.

The court finally requested that the case file be forwarded to the Thessaloniki Public Prosecutor’s Office to investigate incidents of injury reported during the long -term trial by the young man’s family through the Ombudsman.
