With deep sadness, the death of His Eminence Metropolitan Argyrokastro Dimitriou, who died at 20:30 at the Ioannina General Hospital after a long hospital due to a long -term hospital, was known on the afternoon of June 28, 2025.
Blessed Dimitrios was born in September 1940 in Serres and attended the Theological School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 1974, he was a monk in the Monastery of St. Catherine of Mount Sinai, where he was distinguished in the study and classification of old manuscripts.
With the establishment of the Orthodox Church in Albania in 1991, he joined the Missionary Work of Archbishop Anastasios and in 1994 he was appointed Protectorate of the Holy Metropolis of Argyrokastro. In November 2006 he was elected and ordained a Metropolitan, decorating his spiritual duties in the area for almost two decades.
During his hierarchy, His Eminence Dimitrios opened temples, reinforced the catechism and developed a rich charity. He has served for many years as deputy chairman of the Education Foundation “Breath of Love”, while at the same time supporting the spiritual regeneration of the faithful through educational initiatives and bibliographic studies.
Trisagio in favor of resting his soul was already held in the chapel of the Holy Archdiocese of Albania, and the funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 11:00, at the Cathedral of Christ’s Resurrection in Argirokastro.
