Today, the Minister of Civil Protection Takis Theodorikakos held a teleconference with the Minister of Interior of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi and the Deputy Minister Mary Hakobyan in the presence of the Consul of Ukraine Anna Tischenko.
Mr. Theodorikakos reiterated the solidarity of our country with the Ukrainian people and referred to the cooperation of the Ministry of Protection and the competent Ministries with the Ukrainian Embassy, ​​for the reception under safe conditions of refugees in Greece.
“With extraordinary decisions, we facilitate Ukrainian citizens who do not have biometric passports to enter Greece, without problems, where they are provided with temporary protection,” said the Minister. He also underlined the mobilization of the Greek Police in the framework of the European program EMPACT, but also the national plan for dealing with all forms of crime, especially against women and children who are in the majority of refugees.
The Ukrainian Minister thanked the Greek Government and the Ministry of Civil Protection for their support and referred to the request to host children or families of Ukrainian police officers, in which the Ministry and the Greek Police expressed themselves in a positive way.
The two ministers also referred to the historical ties of the Greeks with the Ukrainian people and the great dangers faced by the Greek community, especially in Mariupol, but also in other cities due to the Russian invasion and the war, as well as the efforts to save the civilians and the need to end this absurd war.
