Gang accused of that cheated and committed thefts against elderly womendismantled from the Property Crimes Department of the Attica Security Directorate.
In particular, according to the Police, a 48-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were arrested in Maroussi and Kinetta, as part of the spontaneous process, accused of forming a gang that commits theft and fraud in collaboration and continuity. At the same time, an arrest warrant and convictions were pending against the 48-year-old, mainly for fraud.
The gang, operating at least since November 2021, targeted elderly people in various parts of Attica and committed thefts using the method of employment.
The 48-year-old was found in Polydroso, Maroussi, talking to an elderly woman passing by, impersonating the insurer who had been sent to her by a relative, in order to take her by car to her house to insure her jewelry. Police, however, intervened and arrested him.
As for the way the defendants acted, they employed their elderly victims, in order to be able to enter their home and remove, mainly, money and jewelry.
According to ELAS, the spiral used a different composition each time, but always with the personal presence of the 48-year-old defendant, who had a leading role and was the one who located and approached the elderly, mainly women, outside their home. After posing as an insurer, he called the 49-year-old defendant from his mobile phone, pretending to talk to a relative of the victim, giving details about the alleged insurance of the items.
The 48-year-old then entered the victim’s house and asked to present him with valuables and jewelry on the pretext that he had to photograph them in order to secure them, while immediately afterwards he removed them.
It is noted that other members of the gang, who are wanted, had taken on the role of “tsiliadoros” by monitoring the area outside the houses of the victims, so that in case of danger, the 48-year-old could escape.
The pre-investigation investigation revealed four cases of fraud-theft against elderly women, in various areas of Attica.
During the searches, a large number of jewelry, mobile phones and the “business” car of the spiral were confiscated.
The arrested were taken to the Athens Public Prosecutor’s Office, while the police investigation continues.
