The floating bridge of Lefkada “Agia Mavra” has been closed for the boats last Sunday, as the Apostle Security Certificate (General Inspection Protocol – PGI) and its delay in its maintenance was not renewed.

It is the country’s only floating bridge and a passage for sailboats and yachts that go down or go up to Corfu and generally cross the Ionian Sea.

In general, sea access to the island has been completely interrupted through the channel, forcing all boats – tourist, professional, fishermen, sailing – to make the whole round of Lefkada to enter or exit.

With the Bridge and the Lefkada Bridge closed for maritime tourism, while the season is at its peak, the blow for tourism professionals on the island, such as boat refueling companies and catering companies, is very large.

“The suspension of the operation of the floating bridge creates a disruption to maritime tourism and the overall picture of our tourism product,” the island’s Chamber said in a statement.

Lefkada MP Thanassis Kavvadas said of the issue that “things are in progress” so that the Court of Auditors’ commissioner would give the contractor to take the bridge and transfer it to Skaramanga for the necessary work and in place to get a car.

The bridge opens only to emergencies and urgent cases (eg cases of investigation – rescue, etc.) and only after the relevant mandate of the Port.
