A blower whale was found a few days ago swimming near the coast of Astros Kynouria, in the Argolic Sea, by the Archipelagos organization team.

It is the largest species of mammal that the group has so far recorded, above the deep submarine canyons east of the Peloponnese, an area that has little studied in terms of marine mammal populations.

As the “Archipelago” Maritime Protection Institute typically states, ‘It is noteworthy that the blower is the larger toothpick of planet: Females arrive in length 8-12 meters and a weight of about 24 tonneswhile males go beyond 16-18 meters and 57 tonnes. Their lifetime can reach 70 years.

“The Mediterranean population of blowers is estimated at less than 2,500. Their presence in the Greek seas has been recorded since antiquity, with the impressive – for the time – descriptions of Aristotle. Only if we know the unique wealth of our seas, can we really protect it. Let us not forget that by protecting the seas, we also protect our own survival. “
