Completed in Elafonissos a juncture to manage waste management, laying the foundations for a more viability and environmentally responsible future for the island. This is the first one Waste Transfer Station of Laconia, built in the Vardy – Vigla area and inaugurated on Friday, July 25th.
Station operation is an essential step in protecting the environmental and the upgrade of public healthproviding a solution to a chronic problem facing the area.
According to Mayor Elafonissos, Angelos Tsirigotakis, this project was a priority since the first time we took over the administration of the municipality, as the previous practice of gathering and staying large quantities of waste in the former HADA was unnoticed and dangerous to public health. To provide a solution, they carried a total of 755 tonnes of waste to the staircase facilities before the creation of the new station.
Funding and synergies for the project
Mr Tsirigotakis emphasized that the implementation of the project would not be possible without the support of the State, the Ministers of Environment and Energy, Papastavrou and Skylakakis, the Secretary General of Waste Management Coordination Mr. Grafakou, but also by the President of the Green Fund. Through a series of coordinated actions, the procedures were accelerated in order to ensure the best possible outcome.
As he typically noted, *this is a decisive project for ensuring the sustainable development of our island, which during the summer months is accepted by multiple environmental pressure due to tourism *.
In the presence of actors in the inauguration
The inauguration ceremony was given by the “present” significant executives of local government and central administration. Among other things, the Secretary General of Waste Coordination of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Manolis Grafakos, the Vice -Mayor of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, attended. Laconia Theodoros Veroutis and Fodsa Peloponnese President Yiannis Smyrniotis.
