On the night of Monday, July 28, 2025, the 13 -day heat expired, one of the largest heatwaves recorded in our country (the 2 longest ones have been recorded in the last 3 years).
The Network of Automatic Meteorological Stations of the National Observatory of Athens/ meteo.gr recorded the areas where the temperature exceeded 37 ° C and 40 ° C (red and purple bars, respectively).
The diagram distinguishes 2 phases:
– The first at the beginning of the heat from 14 to 17 July
– the second (which was also stronger) from July 20 to 28
There was also a short period of 2 days July 18-19 in between the heat period where temperatures ranged near the normal levels for the season.
The warmest day in the whole country was July 25, where 362 stations exceeded the heat limit (maximum temperature above 37 ° C) and 167 stations 40 ° C. On this day, almost all of the country’s population was affected by temperatures above 40 ° C.
