Kapravelos in SKAI: They die intubated outside the ICU- Private hospitals are also on duty | Skai.gr

The situation in the country’s hospitals is nightmarish, as the director of the ICU of Papanikolaou Hospital, Nikos Kapravelos, told SKAI and the show “Simera” that the on-call duty begins with patients being intubated outside the ICU.

“There is no way a patient can go through the door of the hospital and be expelled. “People outside the ICU are also dying, because the system has reached its limits and we can not escalate the treatment … It is a nightmare to have a patient with shortness of breath, not to have oxygen and to tell him that he does not have a bed in the intensive care unit”, he stated characteristically .

Asked about the recruitment of private doctors, Mr. Kapravelos stated that he will not help and what is needed is to start on-call duty and private hospitals. “The health system has been understaffed for years. Any help is accepted, but it is done without a program. If I invite someone to come to a specialized unit, such as a pulmonology department, it will offer little. “When we say mobilization, we mean the whole system, private and public sector, to become one”, he pointed out.

He stressed that something must be done with the schools, which he characterized as a link in the chain of dispersion. “The tracking we have is that families are being infected by their children,” he said.

As for the unvaccinated, the director of Papanikolaou ICU noted that their mobility should be limited by lockdown, calling on the government to take immediate measures.

Finally, he reiterated the need to extend the mandatory vaccination to other sectors, such as catering.
