At a coordinated meeting held at the Ministry of Environment and Energy, at the initiative of Minister Stavros Papastavrou, the necessary moves for the complete restoration of the Corinthia areas recently affected by catastrophic fires. Present were the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and MP of Corinth, Mr Christos Dimas, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy and MP of Corinth, Mr. Nikos Tagaras, the Peloponnese Regional Governor, Mr. Dimitris Pooros, and Mr.
The meeting, which took place three weeks after the fire in the Feneu-Kastania area, focused on the multi-dimensional plan flood protection and rehabilitation of fire -stricken areas. These measures include anti -corrosion and flood protection projects, as well as design for artificial reforestation if it is considered necessary. Significant is the contribution of Piraeus Bank which, in the context of its corporate social responsibility, will substantially support the implementation of these projects, covering a total of 15,800 acres affected.
Enhanced Cooperation of State and Private Sector
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Environment and Energy stated: “Our goal is to act rapidly and to assist every affected area, every local community that has lost its natural capital to restore, heal, to alleviate the consequences of the catastrophic fires.”. Mr. Papastavrou particularly thanked Piraeus Bank for its intention to take on a contractor in the restoration of the fire -stricken areas, highlighting the importance public and private partnership to protect the environment.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Dimas, underlined the need for collective action by saying: “Today’s meeting marks the commitment of all those involved for rapid restoration and preservation of our forest wealth”. He pointed out that the procedures for the implementation of the necessary projects would proceed immediately.
In the same vein, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Nikos Tagaras, said: “We are implementing a complete plan with immediate interventions on the anti -corrosion and flood protection of the area, in a very strict timetable”emphasizing cooperation with the private sector and especially with Piraeus Bank for direct priority projects.
Local initiatives and participation
The Peloponnese Regional Governor, Mr. Dimitris Poor, pointed out the importance of the Feneos area and the size of the environmental damage, noting that “The wounds in the environment require immediate and targeted interventions, through cooperation of central government, local government and private sector.”. He emphasized that the Region would contribute with all its power to rapidly restore and protect the area from future dangers.
Piraeus Bank Managing Director, Mr. Christos Megalou, assured that the bank remains aid In the rehabilitation projects, as it had done in other areas affected by fires, emphasizing the importance of holistic treatment of the consequences of natural disaster.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of the Forestry of the RIS, Mr. Stathis Stathopoulos, the Mayor of Sikyon, Mr. Spyros Stamatopoulos, the General Manager of the RIS, Mr. Evangelos Goudoufas, the President of the Local Community, the President of the Local Community.
