The Hellenic Police Controls and Information Actions continued for the seventh week in the framework of the “Zero tolerance for Non -use helmet” campaign, with the aim of universal compliance with drivers and passengers, as well as OPIO users. (Light Personal Electric Vehicles).

It is recalled that, according to the Traffic Operational Traffic Operational Plan, police officers from all Traffic Services, Police Departments and OEPTAs. Throughout the country, they are carrying out strict scooters as well as two -wheeler rental businesses, with particular emphasis on professional distributors and their employers.

In particular, during the sixth week of implementation of the action (11/8/2025-17/08/2025) 27,873 checks were carried out, in which 2,613 drivers were confirmed (of which 80 to distribution workers), as well as 413 violations of passengers.

Indicatively, among the violations, 2,382 were two -wheeled drivers (of which 72 distributors), 389 two -wheeled passengers, 155 drivers of EPIO. and 75 ATV vehicles (“pigs”).

More specifically, per region, the following offenses were confirmed:

  • -842- in Attica,
  • -382- In Central Greece,
  • -264- In the South Aegean,
  • -248- In the Ionian Islands,
  • -242- In Crete,
  • -234- In Western Greece,
  • -217- in Thessaloniki,
  • -137- in the Peloponnese,
  • -134- In Central Macedonia,
  • -102- in Thessaly,
  • -86- In eastern Macedonia and Thrace,
  • -78- In the North Aegean,
  • -52- in Epirus and
  • -8- in Western Macedonia.

ELAS points out that, with the introduction of the new Road Traffic Code (Law 5209/2025), the state gives a clear message of zero tolerance to non -use of helmet, through the tightening of the penalties as follows:

  • EUR 350 fine and deduction of driving license for -30 days for the bicycle driver (the same penalties apply to the driver who does not ensure passenger safety).
  • EUR 350 a fine for the bicycle passenger.
  • 30 euro fine for the OPIO driver.

“The campaign is not aimed at imposing sanctions, but to change the perception of drivers and passengers on the mandatory use of certified helmet as a basic measure of life protection. The Greek Police will continue to be on the streets daily, with a strong presence and consistency, in order to ensure the universal application of compulsory helmet use and to establish a more responsible driving behavior.
