New dramatic turnarounds were taken yesterday with the developments with the Sinai Monastery with a source that closely monitors the things to point out characteristically that “There is no logic anymore, it can occur anything”. The finding follows the shipwreck in the attempt to agree with Archbishop Damianos and the monks who moved against him in order to proceed with the proceedings of the emergence of a new Archbishop. It is recalled that Archbishop Damianos himself had reported in convening a General Assembly to initiate the procedures on September 7. However, the mediation undertaken by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, George Kalantziswho for almost 24 hours was talking on both sides with the aim of reaching an agreement, eventually did not bear fruit.

Well -informed sources say that Mr Kalantzis ‘transition to Egypt was not in the void and that he had been clear that there was ground to proceed with the procedures that would lead to Mr Damianos’ resignation and the promotion of the successor. However, when the debate reached this, the final and decisive step was not made.

The same sources point out that in the long -term effort to overcome the impasse, an agreement was reached in principle by the monks who moved against Archbishop Damianos on Athens’s legislative intervention, which recognized a legal personality in the monastery in our country. The disagreement of the monks with this legislation was one of the “thorns” that had recently taken place. And while this obstacle appeared to retreat, Archbishop Damianos insisted on his refusal to accept the launch of succession proceduresand according to his associates, he raised some guarantees. They themselves argue that the Archbishop has called for commitments that the attempt to overthrow the judicial decision on the monastery’s assets would continue.

Other sources are references to some demands indirectly formulated and in some ways ensuring that it continued its presence in the monastery, with a role, for example, in Metochi in Greece. Eventually, the feeling that it was significantly for movements, aimed at delaying developments and have no real basis. It remains unclear, however, if the goal is to make time, what this strategy conceals. Much more, that, as well -informed sources explain, there is no time comfort. The Egyptian side appears particularly annoyed by the fact that it remains closed and without access to visitors, the monastery, especially as we are in a tourist season and there is great interest. It is also clear that this unprecedented situation cannot be extended indefinitely and that a solution should be given. In this context, information indicates that there were persistent suggestions yesterday to consider the possibility to proceed with the procedures for highlighting a new Archbishop Even without Mr Damianos’ consent, if this may proceed, on the basis of what is provided for the operating status of the monastery.
