A total of 125 foreigners were identified on Thursday afternoon (4/9) by the Port Authority in the Monodendri area, east of Lipsi. The immigrants had been transported on a sailboat, which was found and after the authorities were arrested by the boat operator.
According to the Port Authority, as soon as the Leros authorities were notified of the incident, two Port Authority patrol boats, a patrol vehicle and a Frontech boat rushed to the spot. The patrol boat identified the sailboat and used light and audio signals, in which its operator did not respond. A pursuit followed in which the sailboat was immobilized, and the operator was arrested and transported to the port of Leros.
The Lipsi Port was able to locate 125 foreigners in the wider land area (53 men, 37 women and 35 minors), who were transported to Lakki Port of Leros by a patrol, a lifeguard and the Frontex vessel. A 27 -year -old alien was transported by boat to the port of Mastichari Kos and from there to medical structure, while two minors were transferred to Leros Health Center for medical care.
The Leros Port Authority, which carries out the preliminary investigation, arrested the 58 -year -old Egyptian origin, a sailboat as he was recognized as the trafficker of the rest, while the boat was seized.
