The summer months (June-July-August) in 2025 were marked by a strong fire in Europe. In particular, the Iberian peninsula experienced extreme fires during August.
According to the analysis of the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service (CAMS), the total annual estimated carbon dioxide emissions for the European Union and the United Kingdom, from the end of August and with the fires continuing the last 23 years.
In addition to the fires, including the transportation of tobacco from Canada to long distances, ozone pollution and the influx of dust from Sahara contributed to a very intense summer in terms of monitoring air pollution.
Turkey, Cyprus and some Balkan countries have suffered significant fires at the beginning of the period. The activity of the fires continued as it progressed in the summer and, as a result, Southeast Europe has experienced one of the most intense periods of fires in recent years, mainly due to a series of fires in the Balkans during July.
