Saint Efstathios
Saint Efstathios was a great martyr of the Christian Church. It was originally called Plakida and was a senior Roman army officer. One day as he chased a deer, he saw on his horns bring a cross and heard a voice calling him to become a Christian. With this vision he believed in the new religion and was baptized a Christian by the name of Efstathios. Christians were also baptized by his wife Tatian, who was named Theopistis and his two children who received the names of Agapios and Theopos.
When Emperor Trajan was informed that his officer had converted to Christianity, he was dismissed and exiled him with his family. Subsequently, his punishment included separation from his family, a fact that greatly bitten Efstathios.
After years, Trajan remembered his most capable Officer Efstathios when he was in trouble, and brought him back to the army. Along the way, he found his family again and felt great joy.
However, the successor of Trajan, Hadrian, demanded Efstathios to worship the idols again. Efstathios refused, resulting in him and his family tortured to death.
