The archaeological community sank into mourning, after the loss of “active and dynamic excavator” in the area of ​​Thessaloniki and Halkidiki Constantine Sismanidis, who passed away at the age of 71. Posting on Facebook, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Thessaloniki, bid farewell to his colleague and friend at the former EPKA, where he served from 1982 until his retirement, after a two -year service at the EPKA Komotini.

“Kostas graduated in 1979 from AUTH, in 1987 he did a postgraduate studies at the University of Lausanne, and in 1990 he received his doctorate from the AUTH on” beds and clinic constructions of Macedonian tombs “.

He was an active and diligent excavator in the area of ​​Thessaloniki and Halkidiki. He excavated the Archaic Cemetery of the Holy Parade of Thessaloniki, the ancient Skioni Halkidiki, the ancient Kalindonia of Thessaloniki, and since the 1990s he also undertook the systematic excavation of the ancient Stagira.

He was prolific, wrote numerous publications and monographs, participated in many collective volumes and exhibitions, conferences and scientific meetings.

He was also very active in publicity and promotion of the archaeological service work by giving many interviews and a lot of guided tours. He was president of the Aristotle Festivals for the Greek tradition and coordinator for the creation of the International Center for Aristotelian Research and Study of Ancient Stagira.
