A Xanthi Police Officer, out of service and wearing political clothing, allegedly approached the Sounion area of ​​40 -year -old Greek citizen, who – as he claimed – went for a “illegal immigrant”, according to xanthinews.gr.

Without any control, he handcuffed him, threw him into the luggage compartment of his vehicle and transported him to a secluded field in Sellero, where he beaten wildly and abandoned him, the report said.

The victim, a homogeneous living in Germany, had returned to Xanthi to visit his parents. It is dual citizenship (Greek and German citizenship) and even suffers from multiple sclerosis. His state of health makes communication difficult, as he does not speak Greek well and has hearing problems.

In a statement from the Hellenic Police Headquarters, a police officer serving in Xanthi was arrested on Saturday for the offenses of breach of duty, illegal retention and bodily harm. The arrest was made following a complaint by a private person in the Department of Prosecution and Criminal Crimes of Xanthi, about incidents allegedly taking place at the expense of the same day (27/09/2025).

The ensuing investigation has identified the involvement of the police officer in the case, and, as noted, in addition to the criminal case, the disciplinary procedure has also been initiated against him.

The detainee is taken to the competent prosecutor.

According to a announcement by the Hellenic Police Headquarters, the Greek Police “demonstrates zero tolerance for behaviors that are not in line with its mission and role, while at the same time immediately activating any projected criminal and disciplinary procedure”.

The aim, it is said, “remains to ensure legality, enhance transparency and to consolidate citizens’ confidence in the institution.”
