Three foreign men were arrested yesterday (September 29, 2025) in a Pella area, who tried to deceive an elderly man after coordinated actions by police officers of the Almopia Police Department.

In particular, a accomplice to them phoned the elderly pretending to be the doctor and claimed that his granddaughter was injured and should have been immediately undergoing surgery, demanding a sum of 50,000 euros.

The aforementioned men were identified by police officers to board a vehicle and expected to pick up the money, who were arrested.

Further investigation revealed that the associates of the detainees phoned another 5 people in Pella and, using the same methodology, attempted to extract a total of 113,000 euros.

The vehicle used by the detainees was seized, as well as 3 cell phones found in their possession.

Police investigations are continuing both to identify the details of their associates and to determine any involvement in other similar offenses.

The detainees, with the case file against them, will be referred to the Prosecutor of Edessa.

The General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia, with the aim of avoiding the deception of unsuspecting citizens from savvy, constitutes:

  • Do not trust strangers who are trying to convince you to give them money because of your urgent need for a relative -friendly person.
  • Don’t convince if the perpetrators give you to talk on the phone with your alleged relative.
  • Do not accept any meeting – appointment with strangers and declare that you are not going to give money.
  • Always have emergency telephone numbers available (police, fire brigade, hospitals, relatives, etc.).
