The results of the laboratory tests of the National Wastewater Epidemiology Network for the epidemiological surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 virus in urban waste water, which operates under the coordination of EODY. The samples come from the Attica Region and the cities of Thessaloniki, Larissa, Volos, Heraklion, Chania, Rethymnon, Agios Nikolaos Lassithi, Patras, Xanthi, Alexandroupolis, Ioannina and Corfu. The samples are taken from the entrances of the local Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWUs) and correspond to the population served by them.
Conclusions: During the week of March 28 to April 3, 2022, there were increasing trends, compared to the week of March 21 to 27, 2022, in the average weekly viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in urban wastewater in four of the thirteen (4/13) areas tested from the National Network of Sewage Epidemiology (EDEL) of EODY, downward trends in seven of the thirteen (7/13) areas of EDEL and stabilizing trends in two of the thirteen (2/13) areas controlled by EDEL.
Clearly increasing trends were observed in Xanthi (+ 32%), Patras (+ 33%) and Alexandroupolis (+ 41%), while the increase was marginal in Volos (+ 25%).
Net declining trends were observed in Agios Nikolaos (-31%), Chania (-36%), Ioannina (-54%), Corfu (-57%) and Rethymno (-58%), while the decrease was marginal in Attica Region (-16%) and Heraklion (-28%).
The viral load of urban wastewater remained substantial stable in Thessaloniki (+ 5%) and Larissa (+ 5%).
