CUPRA achieved a new milestone with the production of its millionth car. The brand reached this important achievement with a CUPRA Formentor, its most iconic and successful model, which is manufactured at its factory in Martorell. Driven by the challenger spirit and its comprehensive model range, CUPRA has managed to reach this point in just seven years, confirming its position as one of the fastest growing brands in the European automotive industry.
“Achieving the milestone of one million CUPRA vehicles is a testament to the bold vision and unwavering passion that drive our brand. The production of this iconic vehicle at Martorell – the heart of our industrial transformation – reflects our commitment to innovation, electrification and the future of mobility. CUPRA is not just a brand, it is a movement and this achievement adds another chapter to its dynamic growth – in terms of volume, markets and model range,” said Markus Haupt, CUPRA CEO & Executive Vice-President Production & Logistics.
7 models, 1 million cars
CUPRA was founded in 2018, as the first new brand created within the Volkswagen Group, with the aim of being an alternative proposition for the new generation of car lovers. Positioned between the mass and premium segments, CUPRA is a source of creativity and an agent of change – always challenging, with a passion for constantly reinventing itself.
Every CUPRA model is expressive, design driven and performance oriented. Its complete range includes the CUPRA Ateca, the first car to wear the CUPRA badge, the CUPRA Leon, redesigned and strengthened as a stand-alone CUPRA model, the CUPRA Formentor, the first car developed exclusively by the brand and the best-selling vehicle to date, the CUPRA Born, the brand’s first 100% electric model, the CUPRA Tavascan, a electric coupe SUV and the CUPRA Terramar, the brand’s sports SUV. In 2026, the CUPRA Raval will be added to the range, marking a major shift for the brand, making electrification more accessible for the new generation of drivers, without sacrificing emotion and performance.
The millionth CUPRA is a Formentor
The flagship vehicle is a CUPRA Formentor e-HYBRID in Magnetic Tech matt, a model that incorporates CUPRA’s new design language with the characteristic ‘shark mask’ front end, the triangular CUPRA Matrix LED and the integrated and illuminated CUPRA logo in the rear light. The interior offers a higher quality feel, with redesigned elements such as the center console, doors, dashboard and fabrics. The millionth vehicle carries the new generation of plug-in hybrid engines, producing 272 hp (200 kW). Equipped with the new 1.5 TSI engine, an electric motor and a larger battery that now offers 19.7 kWh (net capacity), the car proves that electrification and performance are the perfect combination.
Tribute to the people who made the milestone a reality
To commemorate this achievement, CUPRA will raffle off a CUPRA Formentor e-HYBRID among all company employees, to be used for a period of three years. This vehicle, which has special significance for CUPRA, will later join the company’s collection of historic cars, symbolizing an important milestone in the brand’s history. This move is a way of recognizing and thanking all those who have made the development of CUPRA possible, establishing it as a global symbol of design, innovation and performance. “One million CUPRAs is not just a number, but the result of the talent, passion and dedication of all the people who are part of our brand. Thanks to them, in just seven years we have become one of the fastest growing automotive brands in Europe. That’s why we want this celebration to focus on our teams, recognizing their efforts,” said Laura Carnicero, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Organization.
Martorell is driving the transformation
Based on the strong belief that the future of mobility is electric, CUPRA has emerged as the main driver of the company’s transformation. Together with the Volkswagen Group, PowerCo and partners Future: Fast Forward, the company has invested 10 billion euros in the electrification of Spain. A significant part of this investment, 3 billion euros, has been allocated to the electrification of its facilities in Martorell. Line 1 is currently being prepared for the production of the Volkswagen Group Electric City Car family, a project that the company is leading on behalf of Brand Group Core and which will contribute to the wider spread of electrification in Spain and across Europe. The CUPRA Raval and Volkswagen ID models. Polo will roll off this production line in the first half of next year. The construction of a €300 million battery assembly plant is also nearing completion, further supporting this transformation.
From Barcelona to the whole world
After expanding its international presence in 2025 with the opening of CUPRA City Garages in Vienna and Manchester – reaching a total of 12 global locations – CUPRA continues to pursue its goal of becoming one of Spain’s truly global brands. Building on its strong performance in key existing markets, the brand is preparing to enter new markets with high potential, further expanding its global presence. CUPRA is currently exploring growth opportunities in the Middle East, a region that offers a unique strategic advantage due to its proximity to Europe and its position as one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
