In the shocking case of Finikounda, crucial statements seem to reveal hitherto unknown communications that may “shed light” on the motives of the double murder.
The “key” in the case seems to be telephone communications before and after the crime, at the same time that the nephew of the 68-year-old owner of the campsite, together with his partner, gave long-hour statements to the Investigator.
Shortly after 11:00, the 68-year-old’s nephew together with his lawyer were at the Kalamata courthouse at the Anakritria office, in order to support their request for a civil lawsuit.
In the statement to the police, the nephew of the 68-year-old owner of the campsite and the only eyewitness to the crime, confirmed to the authorities that after the shootings, he communicated through his partner with the employer of the alleged accomplice of the killer.
“I saw him (associate) a few days ago in Athens. At the moment he is working in a leather shop owned by a brother friend of mine. To give you an idea of my relationship with him, after the attack, he is the first person I asked my girlfriend to call and let her know because I was in shock and unable to speak. She called him from her cell phone because mine was at the scene of the murder,” she reportedly told authorities.
The 22-year-old accomplice and friend of the murderer had worked in two businesses of the same owner in Athens. This is a person who had a friendly relationship with the nephew of the 68-year-old owner of the campsite. The nephew’s partner was the one who called the accomplice’s boss on the night of the murder, but the content of the conversation remains unknown.
The testament
The will that the 68-year-old signed three days before his murder also remains a “key”.
“Three days before the murder, … (68-year-old) took me and told me that he changed his will. In the second will, he left out …(niece) and left his property exclusively to my son and to…”, says the nephew’s mother.
A relative of the owner of the campsite reported to the police that the 68-year-old was afraid of his nephew.
“About four years ago there was a theft of about 20,000 euros. My uncle kept accusing… (Nephew) of having something to do with this theft and even told me that he was going to make letters in which he would write that if anything happened to him, he would hold him responsible. She was very afraid of him, because if something happened to her, he would take the lion’s share of the property,” says the niece.
The two defendants for the murder will apologize to Anakritria on Sunday.
