The Palestinian organization Hamas will hand over the body of another hostage to the Red Cross, a Hamas official told Reuters.
An Israeli security source confirmed that the Red Cross will pick up the deceased at 00:30 (Israel and Greece time) and then take him to Israel.
Israel said it had received nine of the 28 bodies held in Gaza, while Hamas, citing technical problems, said it needed heavy machinery and excavation equipment to speed up the discovery of bodies buried under the rubble.
Israel, claiming that Hamas knows the location of the hostages’ bodies, has warned that time is running out.
Hamas, for its part, stressed that it remains committed to the ceasefire agreement and its commitment to hand over all remaining bodies.
In a statement on Friday, the group’s armed wing said a new body had been found, which would be handed over at 11:00 p.m. local time. An Israeli security source said the delivery to the Red Crescent is scheduled for 00:30 Israel time (21:30 GMT).
The issue casts a shadow over the ceasefire agreement, the first stage of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war.
At a press conference in Ankara, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described Israel’s statements as worrying.
“Will Israel use Hamas’s inability to locate the bodies under the rubble as a pretext to break the truce? There is concern in the international community about this,” he said.
Earlier on Friday, Hamas called on mediators to push for the next steps of the truce, including opening the borders, allowing humanitarian aid in, starting reconstruction, forming an administration and completing Israel’s withdrawal.
