The largest photovoltaic park in Greece and one of the largest in Europe is put into operation in Kozani, ensuring a series of important benefits for the local community and the national economy. This is 204 megawatt photovoltaic park of Hellenic Petroleum in Kozani where was inaugurated today in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The project according to the data quoted the managing director of ELPE Andreas Siamisis:
- will produce 350 gigawatt hours of clean energy per year, which is equivalent to the consumption of 75,000 households.
- provides revenues for local government and consumers in the area, households and businesses amounting to 600,000 euros per year.
- reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 300,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to 1.1 million hectares of forest.
- reduces the country’s energy costs as the price at which energy will be sold in the system will be stable at 57.72 euros per megawatt hour for the next 20 years.
The total benefit from the reduction of gas imports and carbon dioxide emissions is estimated at 80-100 million euros per year. “It is a benefit that we will see from the first day of its operation”, said Mr. Siamisis.
The investment in the photovoltaic reached 130 million euros, with the share of the national added value at 35%, while during the construction 350 jobs were created.
“We are living in a very difficult time. We are part of the solution, we must also adapt and change, if we refuse the change the result will be worse “, said Mr. Siamisis.
THE President of ELPE, Giannis Papathanassiou, characterized the project as unique for the data of our country. “We are diligently implementing the digital and energy transformation, while modernizing our core business,” said Mr. Papathanassiou.
THE general manager of strategic planning and new activities of ELPE, George Alexopoulosannounced the upgrade of the group’s goal for renewable sources to 1 gigawatt in 2026 (from 600 megawatts) and 2 gigawatts by 2030 in photovoltaic, wind and energy storage.
THE Deputy Minister of Development and Investment, Nikos Papathanasisstressed that investments in the context of a fair development transition of lignite areas will reach 7 billion euros.
THE Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas, stressed that electricity generation from renewable sources is 4-5 times cheaper than fossil fuels. “The mortal model based on lignite is being transformed into a new model that creates new high-paying jobs,” he said.
