The Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Hieronymos was visited today by the new Archbishop of Sinai, Faran and Raithos and Abbot of the historical Monastery of Saint Catherine of Mount Sinai Simeon.

He was received by the Archdiocese of Athens, Bishop of Christoupolis Varnavas, who led him to Archbishop Ieronymos who welcomed him warmly, with the hope that any difficulties would be overcome and that the issues concerning the Holy Monastery would be resolved.

For his part, the Archbishop of Sinai, Simeon, thanked the Primate of the Hellenic Church and in his person the Church of Greece, for the support and help they offer.

In fact, in their statements, the two Archbishops referred to the cordial communication and cooperation they had until now.

“Good steps have been taken and let’s hope for the best”, emphasized Archbishop Hieronymos, while noting that “after many difficulties and problems, but with God’s grace we are celebrating the arrival of Abbot Mr. Simeon of the historic Sinai Monastery”. In addition, he spoke specifically about how to deal with issues both from the side of the Church and the State.

“I considered it necessary to receive your blessing after my ordination and before my enthronement”, said the new Archbishop of Sinai Simeon with feelings of joy and respect.

“We set foot on the soil of our beloved homeland, as a means to be taken to Egypt in a few days for the enthronement on October 31,” he said and added that “we came to taste a little of the love of Archbishop Hieronymos, to imitate the gentleness and calm way he solves big issues, because these will be our weapons for any difficulties that may arise.”

The meeting, which lasted more than one hour, was also attended by Protopriest Emmanuel Papamikroulis, secretary of the Synodal Committee on Orthodox and Inter-Christian Relations of the Church of Greece.
