Panos Routsi announced the decision to return to Syntagma Square and remain at the monument to the Unknown Soldier, starting today.
Mr. Routsi, speaking to MEGA, expressed his views on the amendment voted for the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, stressing that the monument is a “symbol of memory and honor for those who lost their lives unjustly”.
“The children of Tempe belong to this memory and they do not insult it, they honor it,” he said characteristically, adding that “instead of erasing their names, make sure that there are no names again.”
Mr. Routsi expressed his concern that “an attempt will be made to erase the names” and that is why he has decided to be every day in Syntagma Square, at the place where his son’s name has been written in red paint, while he called on the citizens who supported him during his 23-day hunger strike to stand by his side again.
“We owe it to the children we lost, we owe it to ourselves, because what they are doing is an act of revenge and it will not go away,” underlined Mr. Rucci.
His statement in detail:
“I want to say something about the amendment that was passed regarding the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.
First, I want to emphasize that the Monument to the Unknown Soldier is a symbol of memory and honor for those who lost their lives unjustly. The children of Tempe belong to this memory and do not offend, they honor it.
Instead of erasing their names, make sure that no names exist again. You don’t just erase the memory. I am afraid that the names will be deleted, because we have seen in the last three days that they are trying to expel the children from the “To the End” group.
This is not going to happen and I will be in the Constitution from today. I call on the people who supported me during the 23 days of my hunger strike, let’s all be together, because we owe it to the children we lost, we owe it to ourselves, because what they are doing is an act of revenge and it will not pass.
I will be every night at the Syntagma, exactly where my son’s name was written in red paint.”
The 23-day hunger strike
It is recalled that Panos Routsi, father of 22-year-old Dennis who lost his life in the Tempe train tragedy, had carried out a 23-day hunger strike at the Syntagma, demanding the exhumation of his son’s body, so that toxicological tests could be carried out with independent technical consultants.
The strike ended on 7/10 when his lawyer, Zoe Konstantopoulou, announced that all his demands had been accepted and that the families of the victims would be invited to submit proposals for the appointment of experts and that they would be able to hire their own technical advisers.
