We are sure that there was no issue from the benefits and there was no alteration there. “Consequently, it was obviously caused by him, the deceased, but we do not know how,” Mr. Tryfon noted.

Melt the fire extinguishing system from the high temperature

Referring to the fire extinguishing system of the Hospital, Mr. Tryfon pointed out that there is a fire extinguishing system but also fire extinguishers, outside each ward there is a fire extinguisher as well as portable fire extinguishers on the side of the offices. He also said that the firefighting system “melted” due to the high temperature caused by the fire that took the oxygen supply and that the running water was not enough to put out the fire.

“The specifications are such that they protect against the classic fire. The oxygen fire raises such temperatures that the two cast iron bodies inside the chamber burst. The experts of the Fire Brigade told us that for this to happen, the temperature must exceed a four-digit number. So you understand that no fire extinguisher can withstand such temperatures. “

Mr. Tryfon also pointed out that the mobilization of him, the specialized curator and the head of the Clinic as well as the Technical Service was immediate, which within three minutes turned off the oxygen supply and cut off the electricity in order not to cause electric shocks. He also mentioned that the staff of the Clinic had been trained, in 2018, during a simulation exercise performed by the Fire Brigade at the specific Clinic.

Describing the image of the Clinic after the fire, Mr. Tryfon stated that the ward from which the fire started has been completely destroyed and that a complete reconstruction is needed.

“The chamber has been completely destroyed until the walls and even the bathroom have melted. The flames engulfed the chamber and came out of the window on the outside as well as inside. The interior door literally melted and the flames along with the smoke spread throughout the section. The false construction absorbed all this smoke. So throughout the clinic 25 wards with wards need to be changed. The air conditioners and the germicidal systems outside the cabins have melted, the central air supply system and of course the cables have melted. We are going to a complete reconstruction. “Although the smoke had entered all the rooms and all these offices are being cleaned, but the restoration of the central units is literally for the whole department”, Mr. Tryfon pointed out. The condition of patients

Referring to the condition of the patients, he noted that one of the injured who was removed from the ward where the fire broke out, has escaped the danger and is in full contact with the environment, did not show respiratory failure, that he entered the ICU preventively, that he has burns only in the lower extremities. Regarding the other patients, he said: “The other 20 patients were transferred to a frightening aid chain of nurses and ambulances and at the same time the other nurses removed non-Covid patients from the outpatient clinics and emptied the Gastroenterology Clinic. now everyone is fine, except for two ladies who were very heavy and are in the Unit or one intubated and the other non-intubated for reasons of high need of protection “.

Mr. Tryfon pointed out that the goal is not to lose the operation of the Hospital and to be able to cope with the general vigil on Saturday.

“Already this morning I spoke with the head of EKAB-KEPY Mrs. Leptokaridou-Lakasa who has arranged that both Papageorgiou and Ippokratio and 424, to receive patients from us so that we can manage the on-call duty that is coming ».
