The immediate mobilization of the police of the Security Sub-Directorate of Serres, resulted in investigation of 10 cases of fraud and attempted fraud against mainly elderly people, which took place on the same day in the city of Serres.
He was arrested in Serres 58 years oldwho together with 3 accomplices they set up a criminal group with distinct roles, in order to obtain illegal property benefit from the deception of mainly elderly people.
Specifically, they also called pretended to be doctorsto elderly people claiming that their child was seriously injured and asking for money for immediate surgery.
In this way they deceived one 87 years old and they took 4,000 euros from herwhich he had put in plastic bag and had thrown from the balcony of the apartmentwhich were received by the arrested person.
In the possession of the arrested person was found the amount of 4,000 euros, which was returned to the victim. Also in his possession was found and confiscated 1 mobile phone.
According to the investigation, on the same day they tried to deceive 9 more people, mainly elderly people and tried to distract them. a total of 101,000 euros.
The 58-year-old was sentenced to 29 months in prison, without the right of suspension or appeal.
The police investigation continues both for the identification of the details of his accomplices, as well as for their possible participation in other similar criminal acts.
In order to prevent and avoid incidents of fraud by experts, the General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia, advises:
-Be especially wary when strangers ask you for money, for a supposedly urgent need of your relative / friend, such as hospitalization or for a alleged car accident caused by your relative, which resulted in the fatal or serious injury of a minor, usually a child . They can try the same over the phone.
-It is pointed out that in traffic accidents, the police authorities always follow the legal and prescribed actions, under the guidance of the local Prosecution Authorities and in no case are there any deviations from them, with the payment of sums of money.
-In cases where strangers invoke the emergency of an acquaintance – your relative, always seek to contact yourself by phone with your acquaintance – relative, to confirm what they invoke.
-The communication should be done directly, with your own phone and on your own initiative and you should not agree to talk to a person, who was called by strangers or the perpetrators gave you to talk.
Do not be persuaded by strangers, who appear to be Civil Servants or other bodies to fix a technical problem, unless you have called them before.
-Do not accept in any case strangers to take you to a Credit Shop or ATM to withdraw money.
-Always have available the telephone numbers, with which you must contact in case of emergency (Police, Fire Department, Hospitals, close relatives, etc.).
-Always inform the police authorities, even in case of attempted fraud against you.
