President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Monday (11) that some ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) are “the big problem” to change federal legislation.
He cited the trial of the so-called environmental agenda in court. Appointed by Bolsonaro, Minister André Mendonça stopped two of these actions last week that questioned the federal government’s omissions in combating deforestation in the Amazon.
“They wanted to tie the federal government down, completely prohibit us from investing and seeking improvements for the region [da Amazônia]”, said the president in an interview with the Liberal Group, from Pará.
The president also defended the approval of a bill that changes rules on land regularization, called by environmentalists the PL da grilagem. He reiterated that the numbers on fires and deforestation in the Amazon are exaggerated and said the text would dehydrate these alerts.
“Even the São João bonfire can be a source of heat”, he declared. “We are going to put an end to this exaggerated number of fires that exist in the Amazon”, said the president.
In the same interview, Bolsonaro made new criticisms of the ministers of higher courts. Without naming names, he said that three members of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) have a “direct interest” in the approval of the Fake News PL.
“They do want to censor social media,” said the president. On the 6th, the Chamber rejected an urgent request that could speed up the vote on the text that regulates the performance of big techs in Brazil.
Bolsonaro also demanded a reaction from Minister Alexandre de Moraes to lines in which former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) encouraged union militancy to seek out deputies and their families at their homes to press for proposals that interest the sector.
“Alexandre de Moraes, this is an undemocratic act. Will you keep quiet? Will you keep quiet?” Bolsonaro said.
The president also returned to defend the targets of Moraes’ decisions. He said that Bolsonarista influencer Allan dos Santos “cannot live as an exile”. He is considered a fugitive by the police and is in the United States.
The blogger, known for the website Terça Livre, was arrested by Minister Moraes in October last year. He is the target of inquiries that are pending in court about the spread of fake news and attacks on institutions.
“It’s missing for a few authorities in Brazil to understand that they can do a lot, but they can’t do everything. I believe that sooner or later we will come to a good end in this matter. People who are extrapolating will be put in their rightful place,” Bolsonaro said.
The president also indicated that he will choose retired general Walter Braga Netto, former minister of defense, as a candidate for vice president. He said there is a 90% chance that the slate will form.
“It gives credibility to the ticket”, said the president.
In an interview with Sheetthe Minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira (PP-PL) said that the alliance between politicians from the center and the military “is working”.
