A total of three years and two months in prison awaited a 40-year-old man from Sourpi who was tried in the Autophorous Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Volos on Saturday, found guilty of insult and domestic threat and sentenced without suspension and the appeal to have suspensive effect. The perpetrator will be transferred to Larissa prison, while he was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months in prison for domestic abuse with a threat in December 2021 and he was suspended on the condition that he did not stay at his grandmother’s house.
The perpetrator went to the house on Friday afternoon, where his grandmother and uncle live and is close to his paternal home, where he lives alone in the same village, he took a knife from his grandmother’s house, she herself testified that he put it in her throat, threatened that “he will drink her blood with the straw.”
Fortunately, the 86-year-old woman found the courage to repel him and escaped the worst.
Following the 86-year-old’s complaint, the perpetrator was arrested, a psychiatrist ordered an examination, doctors ruled that he did not need medical treatment and he was tried in the Autophorous Three-Member Criminal Court on Saturday for the offenses of domestic threat, illegal stabbing and stabbing.
In court, the defendant claimed that he cursed his grandmother when he went to her house to charge his rechargeable radio, but the other accusations are false, because he does not like him.
He was eventually found guilty of domestic threat and insult and acquitted of carrying a knife, as he took the knife from the kitchen of his grandmother’s house and did not have it with him.
The prosecutor’s proposal was 3 years in prison for intimidation and six months for insult and he was eventually sentenced to 3 years and 2 months in prison without suspension and the appeal having suspensory effect, which means he will be sent to prison.
The Court also decided to send a copy of the case file to the Prosecutor’s Office, which will investigate whether there are other criminal acts, such as the attempted bodily harm alleged in the complaint of the accused’s grandmother.
It is noted that the 40-year-old was sentenced in December 2021 for domestic threat and insult against his grandmother to 2 years and 4 months in prison, with suspension, provided that he would not stay at his grandmother’s house, so the case is referred back to Court, to decide whether there was a violation of the terms of suspension of this sentence.
