The process of apologies which has already begun is completed today with the apology of the last accused police officer, who will give his own answer to what the case file attributes to him and his co-accused The two shopkeepers and the three police officers, who have been on trial since October for the death of the 33-year-old in September 2018, have already apologized in previous trials.
After the completion of the last apology o Prosecutor of the Joint Assize Court Sotiris Bougioukos he is expected to present his motion today on the guilt or not of the accused. The prosecutor will evaluate what is recorded in the case file for the death “in public view” of the activist and what emerged from the proceedings before the court, the testimonies of medical examiners, eyewitnesses and experts on the video material and the details of the material he has recorded in the last moments of Costopoulos before ending up on the pedestrian street of Gladstonos Street that were displayed in court.
With his proposal, Mr. Bougioukos will ask the judges to follow his judgment on the guilt or not of the six accused of fatal bodily harm against 33-year-old Zak Costopoulos.
Faced with this accusation tried the jeweler in whose store he entered “for an unknown reason” according to the case file the victim, the owner of a real estate agency which rushed to the spot and appears in video to kick the trapped activist along with the first defendant and the four police officers who dealt with the incident and handcuffed the injured 33-year-old.
According to the facts of the case, Zak Costopoulos’s death was caused by ischemic myocardial lesions due to organic stress caused by the blows he received. In the court the medical examiner Nikos Kalogrias, who with the colleague of Mr. Sultana Marianou carried out the examination on the body, testified that the 33-year-old suffered an ischemic attack as a result of the blows received by the victim. Mr. Kalogrias in his testimony in court, when asked about it, had answered that “we can not rate which injuries participated more or less in the result”.
The defense side challenges the medical examiners of the Forensic Medicine Service and with the conclusion of an expert forensic expert puts forward the position that The 33-year-old’s pre-existing health problems were the ones that led to his deatha result which was in no way affected by the violence suffered by the activist, as they estimate.
The Prosecutor today with the reasoning who will analyze in his speech will be placed against all the critical issues of the case and will essentially answer the top, the question of the cause that had a decisive effect on the end of the 33-year-old. From this belief of the prosecutor, from the point of view that he formed for the whether and which injuries were more or less involved in the outcome will be judged and his proposal for the guilt or not of each accused based on his action in the area but also based on the violence he exercised against Zak Costopoulos.
Jacques’s parents will be in court, the people who from the first day they lost their child, sought Justice for Jacques and for who he was. The 33-year-old’s father, in his deposition spoke of a crime of a racist nature. Dozens of other people in every courtroom outside the courtroom, as they will be today, are convinced that the brutality against Jacques was commensurate with the defendants’ views on his appearance and lifestyle.
