Police in the Department for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings put an end to the action of a 70-year-old man, who had illegally protected intellectual property content, after his arrest yesterday morning (12-04-2022) in the area of Alexandroupolis.
A case was filed against the detainee for violation of the Copyright Law and for computer fraud.
Specifically, the Organized Crime and Human Trafficking Sub-Directorate of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate conducted an investigation to identify individuals active in the field of “piracy” of subscription channels.
As part of the investigation, it was found that the 70-year-old had posted ads for the sale of electronic equipment that illegally provided access to subscription services.
After an organized operation with the assistance of employees of the Society for the Protection of Audiovisual Works and in the presence of a court official, a search was carried out at his home where they were found and confiscated:
- 86 electronic devices, some of which had a pirated pay-per-view player installed,
- Laptop, tablet, storage devices (hard drives and usb)
- Money amount 1,950 euros,
- Mobile phone,
- Notebooks and notebooks with clientele.
According to the research, from April 2021 to April of this year, the 70-year-old had sent through a courier company more than 200 parcels throughout Greece.
Revenues captured from the sale of electronic devices and the collection of illegal connections exceed 200,000 euros, while the corresponding loss in missing revenue of subscription companies exceeds 600,000 euros.
The arrested person will be taken to the Public Prosecutor of Alexandroupolis.
