The Greeks “turn their backs” on diesel vehicles

by

More and more Greeks “renounce” diesel cars every month. Last month, sales of diesel vehicles in Greece experienced a new decrease (-6.5%), with the total market share reaching 14.9%, when a few years ago the corresponding share was close to 50%. From the beginning of the year (the first quarter) the percentage of drivers who chose diesel vehicles is 15.3%, when in the corresponding period last year the market share was at 21.5%.

In the countries of the European Union things do not differ much. The percentage of sales in diesel cars is at 19.7%, when the corresponding percentage of last year was 28.1%. On the contrary, the sales of hybrid and electric cars are gaining ground, since every month they set a new record. Sales last month increased by 6.6%, while now more than one in four cars sold in our country are hybrids. Sales of electrical (BEV-PHEV) are also moving up, as they increased by 3%, recording a total market share of 9.4%.

The increase in the price of fuel has led many Greeks to buy dual fuel cars. LPG models rose 1.1%, recording a total market share of 1.6%. This trend is also present in the EU where the corresponding percentage for the last quarter is close to 2.3%, rewarding the car manufacturers that continue to invest in this technology.

Another fact that is observed in our country is that now more than half of the cars (54.2%) are SUVs, when the corresponding percentage of the corresponding period of last year was 44%. This means that the Greeks choose a car that can combine everything. In SUVs, the favorite category of Greeks remains the “B”, as it offers space, comfort, power and many possibilities for excursions.
