An entire Department in their Kindergarten was opened by Duke Schools to receive completely free 19 children from Ukraine 4 and 5 years old, from Monday 4 April until the end of the school year.
The school, after contacting the Embassy of Ukraine, and then at its suggestion, collaborated with the United Diaspora of Ukraine (Union of Ukrainian Organizations in Athens) to coordinate.
The aim of Douka Schools is, on the one hand, to help these children integrate into Greek social and school life and, on the other hand, to facilitate their parents in their effort to coordinate and organize their stay in Athens.
The whole school community of the Schools immediately embraced this initiative with the first and best teachers, who were willing to participate voluntarily in the program and the Parents’ Association.
Thus, with the valuable contribution of all, a 6-hour daily program was designed that includes all the cognitive objects of the Kindergarten but also Creative Game, Music, English, Greek, Physical Education, Music Kinetics and much more.
The children travel to and from their homes by school bus and are fed at school. This is an important humanitarian action that is in line with the principles and values of the School and seals that everything that is taught to its students, such as acceptance of diversity and Rights of Children, become action. In addition, the role that a school should have as a cell of society that with its bright example stands next to the problem, becomes an active part of the solution and passes messages and attitude to life to students and their families.
This action could not have taken place without the valuable contribution of the School staff who were very happy to help. Thus, the transfer of children is carried out with the kind sponsorship of the companies PANOLYMPIA and KACAYAS, lunches are offered by APOSTO CATERINGwhile breakfast and the necessary educational material the company STUDENT WORLD. The safety of young Ukrainian students is offered by HORIZON Insurance.
The CEO of Doukas schools, Mr. Konstantinos Doukas, spoke about the action on SKAI 100.3.
