Georgiadis in SKAI: The measures we took are effective-Why do we say no to rapid tests in supermarkets | Skai.gr

The Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiadis, expressed his satisfaction for the measures taken by the government, speaking to SKAI and the show “Unmatched”. As he noted, the measures had an effect, as a few days after their implementation the pandemic follows a slightly declining course, while at the same time contributing to the increase of vaccinations.

“We have taken some measures and to see if they work, 14 days must pass. However, these days they are applied, they have presented results. First of all the pandemic has a slight downward trend and the rising wave has stopped. Secondly, the death toll, which comes from 15 days ago, has stopped rising. Obviously it is high, but it shows a slight bend. In addition, vaccinations have increased significantly. So the measures we took had an effect “, he stated characteristically.

Asked if the government is considering additional measures, he said that at the moment there is no such possibility and if it is proposed by the Commission and the Experts, he may not be aware of it.

However, regarding the Austrian model, Mr. Georgiadis stressed that it does not need to be implemented, as well as in Greece, those who are not vaccinated can only go with a rapid test to outdoor restaurants and retail stores.

At the same time, he ruled out the possibility of unvaccinated people entering supermarkets by taking tests, as the government could not deprive them of the right to make a living, adding that if that was the case, the restriction of people depending on the square meters would be restored.

“The retail side is calling for the entry control of the vaccinated and the unvaccinated to be extended. At the time of the lockdown, with my own decision, red ribbons were inserted so that they would not sell what the closed stores were selling. Because in the supermarkets there is a mixture of uncontrolled unvaccinated and vaccinated, we restored the squares of the space. So they have less capacity as compensation for the advantage of not controlling the entrance “, he pointed out.

In the same context, he explained that there are two problems in entering supermarkets. “First of all, a large part of the population does not want to do a rapid test because they do not believe in the coronavirus. But you do not have the right to deprive them of their livelihood. The second problem is the queues in control. “Can you imagine the queues that would form in the supermarkets?” He explained.

Regarding yesterday’s announcement by Alexis Tsipras, who blamed the government for the 17,000 deaths in the pandemic and announced his intervention after the speech of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Minister of Development commented that the president of the official opposition has say everything and their opposites. “A year ago he said that Mitsotakis promised us a vaccine that has not yet been invented. He blamed us when we did the lockdown because we did it, he blamed us when we did the lockdown, he blamed us last year for not opening tourism on time and then he blamed us for opening tourism early. “He blamed us for closing the schools and then for opening them,” he said.

“There were no dead inside the Polytechnic”
Regarding his statements about the Polytechnic, Mr. Georgiadis insisted that there were no dead inside the Polytechnic, while he also condemned the attack that was received yesterday by the former SYRIZA MP, Nikos Manios.

“I insist that there were no dead inside the Polytechnic. Today I even uploaded the Wikipedia which has exactly recorded all the dead of that period that are all around the Polytechnic, as well as at a great distance. There is a relevant study by Kalavritakis, which says that there was no dead person inside the Polytechnic. What to do; “Should we change history?” He said characteristically.

Asked if these statements cause division, he replied that “we saw yesterday what happened at the Polytechnic. Am I causing division? He added that the important thing is that the Polytechnic uprising was a collective expression of freedom and is well honored. “But everything we saw yesterday was unacceptable. “First of all, what happened to Mr. Manios is completely unacceptable, which is shameful, vulgar, unthinkable”, he pointed out.

In fact, he blamed SYRIZA for the announcement it issued in order to condemn the attack against Mr. Manios, emphasizing that it had gaps. “He should also have an apology for decades stroking this area of dirty anti-authoritarians, who after the SYRIZA government and the memorandum passed by Tsipras, have turned against Tsipras personally and SYRIZA and have reached the point of hitting Mr. Manios. And the second thing that SYRIZA should say is with the same intensity that it rightly condemned the violence of Mr. Manios, it should condemn the image of the wreath of the Greek Parliament that was thrown in the street and the provocation against the Parliament delegation that these gentlemen did not let them lay a wreath. “In the Greek Republic, the elected representatives of the Greek people cannot lay a wreath, but by force, some who voluntarily define themselves as representatives of the Greek people,” he concluded.
