Messolonghi “drowned” in garbage – Declared a state of emergency

In civil protection emergency was declared the Municipality of Messolonghi by his decision Secretary of Civil Protection, Vassilis Papageorgiou.

However, the daily traffic of the municipality’s vehicles in the specific landfill has boost fuel costsespecially after the latest increases, as well as the cost of repairs.

Specifically, the vehicles of the municipality, due to the daily collection and then on the way to Paleros, show damage resulting in frequent immobilization for repair, for periods of more than one week.

As a result, the routes are reduced as well many bins in different settlements not to be collected. “As a result, the delayed collection creates an overflow of waste and, in combination with rising temperatures, becomes a firebomb for public health.”

In statements made by Mayor of Messolonghi, Costas Lyrosstressed, among other things: “We are doing what is humanly possible, with the small resources available to the municipality, to solve the problem with waste management.”

At the same time, he noted that “the municipal authority submitted a request for a state of emergency, because it was not possible to allow this situation to continue, as the environment and the health of all of us are endangered.”
