Easter exit: Increased traffic on the highways – The most “difficult” points

Increased measures of the Traffic throughout the territory

Due to the increased traffic of excursionists, in view of Easter holidays and May Day 2022, until Tuesday 03-05-2022, EL.AS. takes increased traffic measures throughout the road network of the country, in order to ensure the safe movement of citizens and the prevention of road accidents.

The design of the measures includes:

• Road network policing by sectors, based on the specific traffic conditions of each area
• Increased police presence and targeted policing in the points of the road network, where there is a frequency of causing traffic accidents.
• Increased traffic measures at the entrances-exits of large urban centers, where there is heavy traffic.
• Regulation of traffic with pedestrian traffic wardens, at basic intersections, to avoid traffic congestion.
• Establishment of general and special traffic control teams, focusing on the certification of dangerous infringements (speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, overtaking, etc.), as well as infringements based on statistics that are responsible for causing serious accidents ( mobile phones while driving).
• Increased traffic measures in places where there is a mass concentration of passengers (airports, ports, stations, etc.)
• Local traffic regulations, in which festive events will take place.
• Presence of traffic wardens at the Toll Stations of Chora to facilitate traffic, information and advice to drivers and passengers.
• Informing the citizens through the Communication Services, in any case where it becomes necessary to widely inform the public about the existence of any traffic and other problems.

It is pointed out that throughout the implementation of the measures, both the staff and the means of the Hellenic Police, mainly of the Traffic Police Services, will be on increased operational readiness. Specifically, patrols, motorcycles and conventional vehicles will be available, with the appropriate personnel and equipment for the effective policing of the country’s road network.

In this context drivers are requested to:

• be informed about the weather and the condition of the road network,
• be especially careful while driving,
• to faithfully follow the provisions of the Road Traffic Code,
• drive at low speeds to better control their vehicle,
• in any case to comply with the instructions of the traffic wardens.
• It is reminded that the correct road behavior of the drivers and the observance of the traffic rules are basic conditions both for the safe movement and for the avoidance of the traffic accidents.

Increased traffic in the ports of Attica – 100% fullness

It peaks from today the exit of Easter excursionists from its ports Piraeus of Ραφήνας and his Lavriou. According to the coasters the completeness on the morning itineraries of Maundy Thursday and Maundy Friday is 100%. For today, 19 itineraries have been planned from the port of Piraeus, 17 from Rafina and 10 from Lavrio.

The Coast Guard has taken today all the necessary measures to facilitate passengers and recommends to those who are going to travel to be one hour earlier at the departure point of the ship due to increased traffic on the perimeter roads. Yesterday, Wednesday 20/04, 14 ships sailed from the port of Piraeus, while 14,760 passengers, 2,649 cars, 575 trucks and 394 two-wheelers left for various Aegean islands.

26 sailings took place for the Saronic Gulf, while 5,459 passengers, 949 cars, 40 trucks and 148 two-wheelers departed. 13 ships sailed from the port of Rafina while 4,916 passengers, 1,493 cars, 92 trucks and 92 two-wheelers departed. 7 boats departed from Lavrio while 1,743 passengers departed, 482 cars, 45 trucks and 26 two-wheelers.
