The first unaccompanied children of the war arrived in Greece from Ukraine

The first ones arrived on the morning of Holy Saturday ten unaccompanied minors from Zlavutich, Ukraine after a long and difficult journey and a coordinated operation that was crowned with complete success. They are ten children from 10 months to 17 years old and three escorts with their children.

The unaccompanied minors felt from the first moment the warmth of the reception in Bastionwhile they arrived in Athens with the help of patrols that accompanied their bus to the hospitality center, where they are provided with the necessary security and a warm Easter hug.

The Undersecretary of Immigration and Asylum cooperated closely for the project Sofia Voultepsithe Ukrainian Minister of Social Policy Marina Lazebna, the Special Secretary for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors Iraklis Moskov, the Secretary General of Reception and Identification of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum Manos Logothetis, the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Lefteris S. Oikonis Social Service of Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in Athens.

Expatriate businessman Pantelis Boubouras played an important role in the release and transportation of the children, while Sofia Kouvelaki and “The Home Project” are leading the way in hosting small orphaned refugees. Their support is also provided by the International Organization for Migration, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and METADRASI.

Greece and Ukraine have signed a cooperation protocol for the hospitality and protection of unaccompanied children of war, while Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from the first moment gave the green light for the transfer and hospitality of unaccompanied Ukrainian refugees in Greece for as long as necessary.
