Opinion – Julio Abramczyk: For Covid, rethinking international holiday travel may be necessary

The end of the year parties are coming and with them the promotions for trips abroad.

For people who are preparing to travel internationally without urgency, just for sightseeing, it would be convenient to postpone the plans.

As the Covid pandemic and its dangers are not definitively out of the way, it is important to consider the personal and financial complications of getting sick in a foreign country, even with travel health insurance.

On the other hand, enjoying domestic tourism every day of the year would make Brazilians get to know their land and its charms better, speaking and listening to the Portuguese language and even paying in reais. And having the SUS (Unified Health Service) free in the rear.

According to the CDC (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), patients may survive a lung infection with the new coronavirus and then experience new symptoms in other areas or organs of the body.

Physician Deblina Datta, from the CDC, led a team of 40 physicians for nine months. During this period, he noted that Covid-19 causes more illnesses and sequelae than other conditions.

Among others, he cites patients who never had respiratory symptoms, but had extreme fatigue, difficulty concentrating and cardiac changes lasting weeks or months. Other patients had neurological and kidney disorders related to blood clots.

The pandemic is nearing its end.

Some battles in the fight against Covid-19 were won. The most important, against deniers and disseminators of fake news, is controlled, at least in Brazil.
