The case file for the Vgenopoulos-Thanos case was withdrawn – The investigation is from scratch

The Financial Prosecutor’s Office, which studied the new data after the publication of the audio from the website iefimerida.gr, decided to withdraw the case file that had been included in the file, when Vasiliki Thanou was still president of the Supreme Court, and to investigate the case from scratch. , a case that has provoked strong political reactions.

As heard on the audio, which checked for its authenticitythe late Andreas Vgenopoulos talks with a friend of the then President of the Supreme Court on how to settle his court cases, with the friend of Vasiliki Thanou, who appears to have the role of mediator, to participate in the conversation involving the then President of the Supreme Court, who had also served as caretaker Prime Minister, while after her retirement from justice he was for a long time legal advisor to the then Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and was eventually placed as Head of the Competition Commissionfrom which he was removed by a decision deemed legal by the Council of State.

Vasiliki Thanou after the publication of the audio document, which was the occasion to investigate the substance of her relationship with the late Vgenopoulos, had reacted refuting the allegations while he turned to me out-of-court and lawsuits against the media who had, as they were obliged, presented the matter.

Following the decision to withdraw the case from the file, the Financial Prosecutor’s Office will call to testimony anyone involved in the casewhile he will investigate the issue in every direction, as the research was done, when Andreas Vgenopoulos had publicly spoken about attempt to blackmail himit was superficial and yet under the weight of the fact, that the accused President of the Supreme Court at that time still held her position as head of the Supreme Court.

The case was withdrawn by the Financial Prosecutor’s Office headed by him Prosecutor Christos Bardakiswhile the study of the relevant file was undertaken by Prosecutor Nikos Poimenidis.

Following an order from Mr. Bardakis and after the results of the laboratory examination carried out in the Forensic Laboratories of the Security according to which the audio seems to be genuine “without obvious evidence of alterations” and therefore constitutes a new element, the Prosecutor’s Office was led to retraction and re-examination of the case.

In particular, according to the report of the Voice and Sound Examination Laboratory of the Directorate of Forensic Investigations, continuous recording with small but justified fluctuations, without “traces” of unjustified changes or pauses with the observation that the detection of “traces” in digital audio material is not always possible with certainty as these “traces” can be significantly reduced by such as the processing software and the skill of the person processing it. However, the sound that has been recorded in the evidence file has probably not undergone such a process (editing) that alters its content “.

The urgent preliminary investigation that will follow will be carried out by the Assistant Financial Prosecutor Nikos Poimenidis who has already received the audio with a total duration of 5 hours, 28 minutes.

It should be noted, however, that Andreas Vgenopoulos, examined in the context of the preliminary examination that had been carried out in 2016, had talked about 17 meetings with the businesswoman, Mrs. Thanou’s friend, and numerous telephone conversations between them.
