Faced with an unexpected development, a family from Massachusetts came, when wanting to give a stray puppy the opportunity to be adopted, he discovered that it finally became a “small confusion”.
The family rescued a puppy that found it in poor condition on the side of the road but when they rushed to veterinarians for formal checkups, they quickly concluded it was a coyote.
According to the Cape Wildlife Center in Barnstable, the little coyote appeared to have been separated from his family at a very young age.
He was found “wandering and suffering on the edge of a busy street,” the center said.
“Then it was accidentally taken home by a family because I mistakenly considered it a lost puppy. Realizing their confusion, they called us for help.
“With the help of the Department of Public Health we were able to determine that there was no potential risk of rabies exposure and we were able to clean it up for treatment and give permission for rehabilitation from Mass Wildlife,” the center added.
The coyote puppy is recovering in the isolation ward of the center. A foster brother from the Rhode Island Wildlife Clinic has arrived at the Barnstable Center and will be showing up with the puppy soon.
