The German Condor after 25 years flies back to Athens

by

The strong presence of the German tourist market in our country was confirmed in today’s meeting of the Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, with the sales manager of Condor Airlines, Mr. Paul Schwaiger.

As announced, since mid-April – when the German airline landed again in Athens with a direct flight after more than 25 years – there have been six flights a week on a weekly basis, connecting Athens directly with Düsseldorf and Leipzig. , a fact that reflects -as Mr. Kikilias stressed- the company’s confidence in the dynamics of our country’s tourism product, but also the return of the Greek capital to the center of international interest.

The Head of Strategic Planning of Condor Airlines informed the Minister of Tourism that the summer program of the company -as it has been formed so far- includes flights from eight airports of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, to a total of 17 destinations in Greece.

Mr. Kikilias stood particularly in the very positive messages for the course of Greek tourism that he emits, this year, the increase of available air seats by many companies to our country and for more tourist destinations, noting:

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome again one of the most important airlines of the German market – with direct flights to Athens – after an absence of more than 25 years. Today’s meeting is the culmination of a lot of hard work and proper preparation that has preceded, all the previous time, to highlight new destinations all year round, by extending the tourist season, which – let us not forget – that especially this year started earlier than never”.

For his part, Mr. Schwaiger praised the methodical moves of the Greek Government around the promotion of the country’s tourism product throughout this period. “You have a very good strategy,” he said, addressing the Minister of Tourism, with Mr. Kikilias extensively emphasizing the upgraded image of Athens and the attraction of new investments, which provide added value to the tourism industry.

As it was pointed out at the meeting, our country is in the top destinations for German tourists, with the first data from the two largest tour operators -TUI and DER Touristik- even talking about doubling the bookings in many Greek destinations, at least until November. These, as the Minister of Tourism underlined, are high spenders travelers, who traditionally leave a significant income in the sectors related to tourism, supporting the backbone of the Greek economy and the average Greek family.

“After the USA, Great Britain and France, now, Germany also reaffirms the dynamics of our country abroad, the upgrade of the Greek brand name, but also the consolidation of the relationship of trust that we are building all these months. “After more than two years of pandemic, having responded to the challenges of this unprecedented and unprecedented global health crisis, Greece is proving every day that it is a safe country for its visitors and their families,” said Mr. Kikilias.
