Discover 5 new rooftops where to eat and have drinks outdoors in SP

by

Fashion in São Paulo’s bars and restaurants today points to two opposing trends. Some of them are hidden, such as Infini, in Largo do Arouche, while others prefer to open up to the city on terraces — or, as these spaces are increasingly called, on rooftops.

These open-air places on top of buildings have become attractions such as the Sky Bar, at the Ca’d’Oro hotel, the Priceless, at the Light mall, and the Cora, next to the Minhocão, on Amaral Gurgel Street, for example.

But other houses with open areas and panoramic views keep opening. In the case of addresses such as the Astor on Oscar Freire Street, in the Jardins region, and the Dhomus restaurant, in Itaim Bibi, the terraces took on a life of their own, with exclusive menus, different from those of the main kitchens.

Below, see five new rooftops to discover in São Paulo.

penthouse

Opened in April, the restaurant combines the worlds of art and gastronomy and occupies the third floor of a shopping complex on Oscar Freire Street, with a bar and terrace. The walls are decorated with works of art, while the menu offers dishes with spicy rigatoni à la vodka (R$68) and veal parmigiana, served with tomato sauce and burrata (R$118). The drinks menu is signed by bartender Gabriel Santana and features cocktails such as O Pimentinha, made with vodka, lemon, vanilla, passion fruit and chilli pepper (R$41), in addition to classics.

Square

Inspired by Trancoso, on the south coast of Bahia, the house’s terrace resembles a bungalow — but overlooks the very São Paulo Instituto Tomie Ohtake, in Pinheiros. The tip is to go there and enjoy the happy hour, with a beachside menu and Iberian dishes made with fish and seafood. One suggestion is the curry, made with basmati rice, coconut milk and served with pink shrimp, for R$120. But beware: the rooftop is at the top, but it’s not that high.

Astor terrace

Traditional chic pub in Vila Madalena, Astor won a more modern unit on Oscar Freire Street, in Jardins, in 2020. In November, the house opened the Terraço, at the top of the place, in a scheme similar to the trendy SubAstor, which is in the basement of the matrix address. With its own kitchen and drinks list, the place offers drinks such as the Single Malt Spritz, with whiskey, vermouth, lemon and pear soda — which costs R$140 for up to four people. The food menu is short and includes items such as steak tartare with toast (R$32) and carpaccio sandwich (R$25).

Dhumus Terrace

Almost secret, it occupies the top of the Mediterranean restaurant Dhomus with its own menu and reduced opening hours: it only opens on Fridays and Saturdays, from 4 pm to 10 pm. The menu is Mediterranean-inspired, with items such as octopus carpaccio (R$62) and creamy burrata (R$64). The highlight is the happy hour drinks, with a menu divided into classics, Mediterranean and refreshing.

The Bali F12

The complex with sand courts, bar and restaurant in the Tucuruvi region also has a terrace to call your own. Opened in March, the address has cuisine inspired by the island of Indonesia, with items such as nasi goreng, jasmine rice cooked with lemon peel and sautéed with shrimp, smoked sausage, curry, peppers and red onion (R$69). The place also offers brunch daily.
